Scott Leo “Taye” Diggs is an African American actor, singer, and writer. Two of his most remarkable performances are his roles in the 1999 American romantic comedy-drama, The Best Man, and in the American TV series, Murder in the First (2014-206).
He completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts in musical theater from Syracuse University. Taye debuted on Broadway in the Tony-winning revival of Carousel (1994). He also appeared in Jonathan Larson’s Tony Award- and Pulitzer Prize-winning, Rent (1996), where he met and worked with his ex-wife Idina Menzel. Soon, he starred in various broadway and off-broadway productions including The Wild Party (1999), Chicago (2002), and Wicked (2003).
In 1998, Taye moved to TV and starred in the soap opera, Guiding Light. In the same year, he made his film debut in the comedy movie, How Stella Got Her Groove Back (1998). Later, he starred in several other films such as Go (1999), The Best Man (1999), and Rent Film (2005) where he also sang the film’s soundtrack. He has received many awards and nominations throughout his career, including the winner of the Best Ensemble Cast Award at the Acapulco Black Film Festival.
Aside from acting and singing, Taye is also the author of three children’s books entitled Mixed Me! (2015), Chocolate Me (2015), and I Love You More Than… (2018) and has also narrated audiobooks. Along with fellow Broadway friend, Andrew Palermo, they formed an artistic dance company, Dre.dance.
