Dr. Dre is the stage name of Andre Romell Young, an American rapper and record producer born on February 18, 1965. He co-founded, co-owned, and served as president of Death Row Records before becoming the founder and C.E.O. of Aftermath Entertainment and Beats Electronics. In 1985, Dr. Dre joined the World Class Wreckin’ Cru and eventually rose to stardom with the gangsta rap group N.W.A. The group popularized graphic hip-hop lyrics that described street brutality. Early in the 1990s, West Coast G-funk, a hip-hop style distinguished by a synthesizer basis and sluggish, heavy beats, was primarily created and popularized because of Dre.
Early Life
He is Theodore and Verna Young’s son. His middle name is derived from the Romells, his father’s amateur R&B group. His parents married in 1964, separated in 1968, and divorced in 1972. His mother later remarried Curtis Crayon and had three children: sons Jerome and Tyree (both deceased) and daughter Shameka.
Dre started attending Compton’s Vanguard Junior High School in 1976, but he moved schools to the more secure Roosevelt Junior High School in the suburbs due to gang violence. Personal Life
Dre first became a father in high school. He didn’t meet his first son, Curtis until the boy was 20 years old. La Tonya was born as a result of a second high school relationship. Together with Michelle, a singer who had collaborated with Dr. Dre in the World Class Wreckin’ Cru, they had a son named Marcel. In the late 1980s, he fathered another son, Andre R. Young Jr. with Jenita Porter. Andre Jr. died in 2008 of a drug overdose.
