Dabney Wharton Coleman is an American television and theater actor, as well as a former US Army soldier. He was famous for his most recognized comic relief villain roles in the television series Buffalo Bill (1983-1984) and The Slap Maxwell Story (1987-1988). As a result of his great acting, he won the 1987 Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an Actor in TV series or Musical, and a Primetime Emmy Award.
Before becoming an actor, Dabney attended the Virginia Military Institute, a military college, and served in the US Army for two years. He then decided to take up law and attended the University of Texas where he met his actor friend, Zachary Scott, who motivated him to pursue acting.
Dabney studied acting at the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theater in New York City. He made his television screen debut in the police drama series, Naked City (1961). Later, he starred in many other soap operas including The Slender Thread (1965), I Love My Wife (1970), The Other Side of the Mountain (1975), and How to Beat the High Cost of Living (1980).
Soon, Dabney played the role of Franklin Hart, Jr. in the movie 9 to 5 (1980) where he started his comic relief villain role. He appeared in other films including On Golden Pond (1981), The Muppets Take Manhattan (1984), There Goes the Neighborhood (1992), and Where the Red Fern Grows (2003).
