Phil Hartman Overview
Actor, comedian, graphic designer and writer, Phil Hartman was a man of many talents. Becoming disillusioned with the solo life of a graphic designer, he decided to expand his wings into film, and began with the comedy troupe The Groundlings. By 1986, he was ready to be part of Saturday Night Live or SNL. A natural comedian, he managed to keep different segments of the show together, allowing for good links between the many parts of SNL. He soon earned the moniker “The Glue.”
Phil Hartman then played the first of many starring roles, as Bill McNeal in the comedy show NewsRadio. It has a powerhouse cast that included Dave Foley, Maura Tierney, and Joe Rogan. He went on to appear in Small Soldiers, Jingle All The Way, and Houseguest, before gaining arguably one of his greatest parts in The Simpsons, voicing, among others, TV anchor Troy McClure, Cable Guy, Johnny Tightlips and the legendary Fat Tony!
