Jeffrey Wright is an African American stage and screen actor. He is well-known for his role as Belize in the Broadway production, Angels in America: Perestroika (1993- 1994), a role that he soon reprised in HBO’s award-winning adaptation, Angels in America (2003) — garnering him a Golden Globe award and Emmy for Best Supporting Actor in a mini-series
Planning to become a lawyer like his mother, Jeffrey studied political science at Amherst College but didn’t continue to law school because he decided to pursue his love for acting. He received an acting scholarship at New York University, but dropped out after only two months to become a full-time actor.
Jeffrey appeared in his first major movie, Presumed Innocent in 1991. He soon appeared in various other movies including Basquiat (1996), Celebrity (1998), Ride with the Devil (1999), Shaft (2000), Boycott (2001), and The Invasion (2007). He also starred in The Hunger Games film series (2012-present), playing the role of Betee. He also became famous for playing the role of CIA agent Felix Leiter in the James Bond films Casino Royale(2006) and Quantum of Solace (2008).
As well as acting, he also started a charity called Brooklyn for Life! which aims to provide meals for hospital workers in Brooklyn during the Coronavirus pandemic. He raised funding to support local restaurants which would have otherwise closed down during the crisis.
Back in 2013, Wright was arrested for DWI after failing a roadside sobriety test. He was pulled over for a traffic violation whilst driving in NYC when the officers smelled alcohol on him and asked him to perform the test.
