If you saw Michael Clarke Duncan in his role as John Coffey, the mysterious, gentle giant inmate in The Green Mile, for sure, you would have shed a tear because of his moving character portrayal. This was what Michael Clarke Duncan appeared to be in many of his movies. Since he had a huge imposing frame, he was a gentle giant, though at times tough and rough as well. At the start of his career, he was a celebrity bodyguard for many prominent African American celebs that included LL Cool J, Will Smith, and The Notorious B.I.G. It was his role as Bear in the film Armageddon in 1998 that allowed filmmakers to see the unique talent that he had. Soon after, he would land many other roles in a number of well-known films such as Daredevil, The Scorpion King, Planet of Apes, and The Whole Nine Yards.
His rise to stardom was phenomenal, being that he was merely mostly behind the scenes during the early 90s. Unfortunately, Michael Clarke Duncan died early at the age of 54 years old in 2012.

Michael Clarke Duncan died from complications he suffered from a heart attack. It was no secret that Michael Clarke Duncan had issues with his health and that he did his best to get better. He even released a video detailing his shift from a meat-based diet to a vegetarian diet. Still, this wasn’t enough for him to prevent his heart ailment. Michael Clarke Duncan was a burly and impressive man; unfortunately, his health didn’t hold up, and he died early.

Michael Clarke Duncan died on September 3, 2012. He was brought to a nearby hospital, which was Cedars Sinai Medical Center, after suffering from a heart attack less than two months before on July 12, 2012. Although Michael Clarke Duncan seemed to show signs of getting better after a month, he stayed in the hospital. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to fully recover from the complications of his heart attack. He succumbed after almost two months of being in the hospital.
